Caitlin Clark Joins NBC Pregame For Sunday Night Basketball
NBC named Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark a special contributor for Feb. 1 and March 29 pregame shows, tied to an Xfinity marketing deal from March 2024.
Overview
NBC announced Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, that Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark will be a "special contributor" for its "Basketball Night in America" pregame on Feb. 1, 2026, and March 29, 2026.
The hire gives NBCUniversal, a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation, a way to reach Clark's substantial following as the network launches its new "Sunday Night Basketball" primetime package, officials said.
Sam Flood, executive producer for NBC Sports, told The Associated Press that Clark "is one of the most iconic figures" in basketball and said the network expects "a bigger conversation" around her appearances.
Clark scored 3,951 career NCAA Division I points, was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA draft and won Rookie of the Year, and she played 13 games last season before missing time with injury, records show.
NBC said it plans to have Clark return on March 29, 2026, and it is unknown whether she will address the WNBA's labor dispute during her Feb. 1 appearance, officials said.
Analysis
Center-leaning sources frame Caitlin Clark’s NBC role as a celebratory, logical next step, using laudatory language ("a special contributor," "resume is stellar"), privileging NBC executive praise and career highlights while downplaying conflict or critique; structural choices foreground excitement and credentials, marginalizing concerns about labor disputes or commercial ties.
