Quinton Aaron, 41, was intubated and placed on life support after collapsing at his home and being diagnosed with a severe blood infection, his wife, Margarita Aaron, said.
Doctors are running tests, including a bioluminescent MRI, and treating him with broad-spectrum antibiotics to find the infection's source, his wife said.
A GoFundMe organizer said Aaron has opened his eyes, regained some feeling in his legs and that the fundraiser has raised more than $10,000 for medical expenses.
Aaron starred as Michael Oher in the 2009 film The Blind Side and is 41 years old, a role that made him widely known, his prior interviews show.
Doctors described his status as "day by day" and warned he may need prolonged rehabilitation and mobility assistance, the GoFundMe organizer and his wife said.
