Kentucky State University Shooting Leaves One Student Dead, Suspect Charged Amid Campus Closure

A shooting at Kentucky State University's Whitney M. Young Jr. Hall resulted in one student fatality and another student critically injured, prompting immediate campus lockdown and subsequent class cancellations for the week.

Frankfort police arrested non-student Jacob Lee Bard from Evansville, Indiana, charging him with murder and first-degree assault in connection with the incident, though his legal representation status remains unclear.

The university, Kentucky's sole public Historically Black College and University (HBCU), withheld student names while securing the campus, which serves over 2,200 students and 450 faculty.

This incident marks the second shooting in the same campus area within four months, following an August 17 event where gunfire from a vehicle injured two non-students near the residence hall.

Authorities have not yet disclosed a motive for the shooting, which occurred as the fall term was concluding, with final exams and campus activities now canceled through Friday.
