Jasmine Crockett Launches Texas Senate Bid, Setting Stage for High-Stakes Race Against John Cornyn

Democratic Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a civil rights attorney known for viral Capitol Hill moments, officially launched her U.S. Senate campaign in Texas, challenging Republican Sen. John Cornyn.

Crockett's entry follows Colin Allred's withdrawal from the Senate race to pursue a House seat in the newly drawn 33rd congressional district, which he previously represented.

Crockett faces a Democratic primary challenge from state Rep. James Talarico, who has raised over $6 million, while Crockett reported $4.6 million cash on hand from her House campaign.

On the Republican side, Sen. John Cornyn is in a contentious primary against Attorney General Ken Paxton and Rep. Wesley Hunt, a race anticipated to be costly and potentially lead to a run-off.

Democrats aim to gain four Senate seats for a majority, leveraging Crockett's candidacy and potential Republican primary outcomes in a state where Beto O'Rourke nearly defeated Ted Cruz in 2018.
