Overview
Elliot Forhan, a Democratic candidate for Ohio attorney general, said in a Facebook video that he would "kill Donald Trump" by obtaining a conviction and carrying out a duly executed sentence of capital punishment.
The remarks intensified scrutiny of Forhan after social media posts last year in which he wrote "F--- Charlie Kirk" following the conservative activist's killing, a record of postings opponents cited to question his fitness for office.
Ohio State Auditor Keith Faber, a Republican candidate for attorney general, said in a video statement that Forhan's comment "makes it clear that Elliot Forhan is not qualified to be attorney general" and urged Democratic leaders to denounce him.
Forhan served one term in the Ohio House from 2023 to 2024 and was stripped of committee assignments in 2023 amid allegations of abusive conduct, records show.
The Ohio primary is scheduled for May 5, and Forhan said he is running to "apply the law equally," while Ohio Democrats had not immediately disavowed the remarks and did not respond to requests for comment.
