Trump Threatens Lawsuit Against Wolff, Epstein Estate After DOJ File Release

President Donald Trump said aboard Air Force One on Jan. 27, 2026, that he will likely file a lawsuit against author Michael Wolff and possibly the Jeffrey Epstein estate for "conspiring" to harm him, according to a White House gaggle.

The comments followed the Justice Department's release of more than 3.5 million pages of Epstein-related material, which the department warned may include fake or falsely submitted items, records show.

Michael Wolff said "bring it on" in response and noted the Trumps have previously threatened suits, according to a statement to The Daily Beast, while the Epstein estate did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Emails in earlier tranches of the files show Michael Wolff suggested in 2015–2016 that Jeffrey Epstein could "help finish" then-presidential candidate Donald Trump, a detail contained in the released documents.

Potential lawsuits could prompt pretrial motions and discovery and reopen scrutiny of Trump-Epstein ties, and legal experts said litigation timelines could extend for months, according to attorneys contacted by Reuters.
