FBI Investigates Afghan National for Alleged Terrorist Attack on National Guardsmen in D.C.

FBI Director Kash Patel announced the seizure of electronic devices and ongoing interviews following the alleged shooting of two National Guardsmen in Washington, D.C.

Afghan national Rahmanullah Lakanwal, 29, is accused of an ambush-style attack on Staff Sgt. Rojas and another Guardsman at a D.C. metro station.

During the incident, one Guardsman reportedly used a pocketknife, while another shot Lakanwal multiple times, injuring the suspect in the exchange of gunfire.

The FBI is actively investigating the attack as an act of terrorism, executing overnight search warrants at a Washington state house connected to Lakanwal.

Authorities are probing Lakanwal's background and potential associates both overseas and within the United States, noting his 2021 entry after the Afghanistan withdrawal.
