In late November, armed bandits abducted hundreds of students and staff from St. Mary's boarding school in Niger State, highlighting the pervasive threat posed by these criminal groups.

From Papiri, 315 students and staff were reportedly kidnapped; some escaped, and about 100 were released on December 7, though the precise number is unclear.

These widespread abductions target diverse groups, including schoolgirls, church worshippers, and farmers, underscoring a pervasive hostage crisis across the West African nation.
