LEAD: Lafayette Police Department said on Jan. 18 at about 2:17 p.m. that Tippecanoe County Superior Court Judge Steven Meyer was shot in the arm and his wife, Kimberly Meyer, was shot in the hip at their home on Mill Pond Lane, that officers recovered shell casings at the scene and that both victims were listed in stable condition while the suspect remained at large.
CONTEXT: Dispatch audio obtained by Fox News Digital indicates the assailant knocked on the Meyers' front door, said "We have your dog," and then fired a shot through the door, a detail Lafayette Police have not publicly confirmed and for which no motive has been released.
RESPONSE: The Lafayette Police Department said the investigation is active and involves the Indiana State Police, the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office, the West Lafayette Police Department, the Tippecanoe County Prosecutor’s Office and the FBI, while Lafayette Mayor Tony Roswarski called the shooting a "senseless unacceptable act of violence" and Kimberly Meyer issued a statement saying she has "great confidence" in investigators.
SCALE: Indiana Chief Justice Loretta H. Rush wrote in a letter to state judges that she "worry[s] about the safety of all our judges" and urged them to "please remain vigilant" as courts handle "more than 1 million cases a year," and Tippecanoe County Sheriff Robert Goldsmith said additional courthouse security will be put in place.
